The Bristol Down Syndrome Trust provides Speech and Language Therapy for pre-school and primary school aged children who have Down Syndrome.

The therapy is provided in groups of up to five children. The groups are generally arranged according to the age of the children. The children attend every other week in school term time.

The sessions have a theme and the activities are based around the theme. Makaton Signs are used extensively, as they are an invaluable aid to language development for the children.

Children can start the preschool groups from around 15 months. The emphasis is on working on a range of interaction skills that are essential for successful communication to develop. Vocabulary that is relevant to the children is also introduced.
